Overview
Few months prior to the redesigning of Connexio, I had to put a halt to my Canada school quest due to complications and lack of clarity that arose during the whole process. It was indeed arduous. This might not have been if Connexio existed at that time. Connexio is a Personalized Virtual Advisor designed to ease studying internationally. Connexio, provides a seamless way to access all resources needed by students to become successful in their foreign graduate and post graduate school quest.
Understanding Connexio
Connexio existed already but there need for revamp was paramount. I had a brief discussion with my client, garnered relevant information on what we currently have, users’ feedback and challenges. Here are some of the challenges:
I downloaded the app on play store to see what we currently have and how it can be improved upon. I broke redesign into two phases:
1. Did an evaluation of the current app
2. Created a better user experience through a more intuitive interface.
Evaluation of current app
Reason why some features were hidden was because of poor navigation and features scattered all over the app. I visualized the current information architecture to understand it better and see what needs to be changed or adjusted. I rearranged the information architecture of the app in order to:
1. Increase the visibility of key features
2. Find a better way to present the length profile form or minimize input in form.
Ideation and sketches
Accessibility
I had to choose some new set of colors for the brand based on users feedback. When building a product, accessibility is key. Designing an experience that can be enjoyed by a wider range of people which include choosing colors that are visible to the widest range of users. I used accessibility color matrix to test the new color palette.
Sketches
I did a sketch of the new solution to structure some of the ideas. Shared my sketch with the stakeholder to get feedback.
Visual Design Prototyping & Testing
I did a full redesign of the app using the feedback to inform my decision with more dedicated focus on some parts of the app.
Clickable Prototype
After some mid fidelity prototype adjustment, I created high-fidelity prototypes which I supplemented with clickability using Adobe XD.
Usability Test
To validate the changes in the app, I had to test with a few users here in my country and also outside Nigeria with current users through my client. I gave them some tasks and watched their reactions. Some of the question were:
Test Result
1. 4/4 Users could see under the sun
2. 4/4 clicked the guidance when they didn’t know what to do.
3. 3/4 Completed profile without skipping.
Reflection and Learning
Having had an experience about what the problem to be tackled is, I became exhilarated and was so anxious to work on the project knowing how daunting the school quest task could be, I believed the majority would benefit from the app design as it’d solve a problem that affects the majority. It is difficult to know which school to choose abroad. Being a part of something that would change a community was enough motivation to work on the project. Also my horizon was broadened working on the project.
1. Learn about accessibility. It is key.
2. Always get feedback to improve my design
3. See things from users’ point of view, not what I think
4. Always involve the stakeholders in my process
