Overview

Buying, selling and exchanging currencies can be stressful especially when going to the bank and standing on a long queue. Kiakia Fx is an online platform that allows you to buy and sell foreign exchange from the comfort of your home or office via a computer, smartphone or tablet. Kiakiafx is poised to meet its customers’ FX demands by cutting out the long bank inquiries and harrowing communication delays to local FX dealer by bringing both buyer and seller under one virtual window.

Understanding Kiakia

Kiakiafx has a working web platform. My job was to design a mobile version. Mobile applications offer better personalisation and easy accessibility compared to web based on research. I was provided with a research document, style guide and screens from the web. Got some insight on user feedback on the current web platform, most used features and visited pages.

Information Architecture

Based on the insights gained from the web platform, I defined the sitemap for Kiakia Fx.

Heuristic Evaluation

My team and i created a list of scenerios to test with a check list of Heuristics. We didnt have the budget for an experienced usability experts so we did the evaluation ourselves using the recognized usability principles by Jakob Nielsen.

Clickable Prototype

After adjusting the paper prototype based on users feedback, i created the wireframe and highfidelity prototype which i prototyped using Adobe xd. Tested with a few users and adjusted based on user feedback.

Validating the designs

I did usability test and my focus was on collecting metrics that describe the user experience and make sure it has a seamless experience like the web. Tested my prototype with 5 participants. They were given some tasks to do and I also asked them to think out loud. I observed the participant’s behaviour and listened for feedback. Here are some of the task given:

1. Login as a first time user
2. Go to wallet
3. Activate and buy a bid
4. View transaction log

Result from Test

1. 5/5 of participant login successfully
2. 5/5 of participant knew where the wallet was
3. 4/5 of participant activated and bought a bid
4. 5/5 of participant could navigate easily

Users Feedback

1. Very easy to use
2. Recommending this to everyone once built.
3. Can’t wait to have it on mobile
4. Looks really great and simple to use.

Some key takeaways

1. Existing web platform didn’t stop me from getting feedback from users. Designing with users feedback is very important for the growth of the app.
2. Also, Learning UI animation is important to make the app more appealing and usable.
3. Visual design elements must be twice as intuitive as they are on a desktop. I constantly keep in mind that little screens mean very little room for error.
