Overview

Gaming is one of, if not the biggest avenues of entertainment in current times. People are playing more games than ever as newer trends have given rise to a whole new generation of Esports and cyber-athletes. Our team is interested in understanding the gaming ecosystem and building professional gamers in nigeria.

About the sprint

This was my first design sprint facilitation, and I was excited. I worked with a small team that was new to a design sprint so I had to prepare the team ahead of the sprint. We had a UI/UX Designer (me), a frontend developer, a backend developer, a product manager, a data analyst, a marketing lead,content writer and two people from the Esport Team.

User Research

Created my research document with the goal, research questions, and script.The goal was to know gamers’ pain points and determine what opportunities and needs might exist in the gaming ecosystem in Nigeria so we can use this finding to help us shape the direction we use in developing a product. I interviewed 8 gamers (Avid Gamers, Casual Gamers, and Non-Gamers) for my research and with the help of my team, I was able to get participants. I recorded every session and transcribed it with my teammates. I also pushed out a survey on social media to gain more insight. I got about 100 responses which I compared with our participant’s feedback from the interview and I could see a pattern.Transferred all feedback to miro and placed each on a sticky note. I introduced everyone to miro since we were all working remotely and got ready for the sprint.

Design Sprint (One)

We described our challenges, and we defined our goal for the sprint. We walked through all participant points and created an affinity diagram. Grouped all similar sticky notes and wrote drew out insights. We created about four personas and did a priority metric.

Picked out the key insights. Created about for personas and did an impact/effort metrics to know what exactly to focus on.

Design Sprint (Two)

I had a brief discussion with the team on what we did on day one and what we could have done better. We created how might we questions and voted.


We created different ideas and did a journey map to help us focus on our user’s journey when using the product then we created a lightning demo.

Design Sprint (Three)

The team was excited about how far we had gone. The first exercise was to create ideas and we voted on the best. Everyone added their sketches to the board and we voted. Sketching was one of the most exciting exercises for the team because it is not something most people do regularly. The decider did the final voting but we had different ideas so we had to merge most ideas.

Visual Design and Prototype

I created the prototype of the platform and shared it with the team. Here is the result of our teamwork.
